Fear is so debilitating and can be irrational at times. It prevents you from pursuing your dreams. It stops you from living your best life. Fear keeps us in our comfort zones and stops us from growing. It makes you hesitate on what you truly want. So if we know that fear does this to us, why do we give in to fear?
Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dream.
This quote really resonated with me. It’s from one of my favorite books, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. I will never forget when I was reading this book. I was in St Lucia, enjoying my last vacation before I start a new job. During my vacation, I was extremely anxious about starting work. Was I going to like it? Did I make a mistake? What if I fail? Is this the right step for me? Endless negativity was flowing through my mind until I read those sentences in The Alchemist.
It’s true. The fear of suffering is worse than suffering itself. Whenever I freak out about something, it’s never as bad as I thought it’d be. What I portray and play out in my head is always worse than what actually happens. So why do I always waste so much time worrying about something? There’s no reason why I should put myself through that since it’s never as bad as I make it out to be.

When I was debating whether or not I wanted to quit my job and travel, I had so much fear of the unknown. This quote really helped me get through some doubts I was having regarding quitting my job and traveling. I think the quote is a perfect reminder that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams.
Overcome fear. Don’t let fear control you. Remind yourself why you truly want it. Whether it’s quitting your job and traveling the world, or finding a new job, or moving to a new city, or trying a new hobby – whatever it is, it’s so liberating to know that you’re finally living a life the way you want to. You’ll never regret taking a chance. You’ll only regret giving into fear and letting it stop you from what you truly want.
What fears have you overcome? Can you relate? Comment below! I’d love to hear your story.
